The use of aluminium containers as the container for storing sugar in Ireland has been hailed as a breakthrough.
The sugar containers, which are typically made of glass, can be used to store up to 20kg of sugar in a sealed container and are typically found in supermarkets.
Aluminium containers have been in the news in recent years for their use in storing hazardous waste.
Aluminum sugar containers are being used as a substitute for plastic containers and are becoming popular in Europe as they are less expensive and are made of more resistant materials.
The containers can also be used in the kitchen as a storage container for kitchen utensils and other items.
The first commercial use of the aluminium containers in Ireland was in 2009 when a container with a capacity of up to 50kg was used to hold a bag of potato chips.
