Tums contains aluminum chemical

Tums contain an aluminum chemical compound, and the manufacturer is reportedly planning to use it in future batches.
The company said in a statement to The Hindu that it is working on a new formulation, which it says will meet a higher quality standard.
Tums was one of the first brands to take on aluminum, which was discovered by German chemist Ludwig Zahn in 1787.
The compound is not used in any products today, but Tums uses it as an additive in its product line.

Tums’ chief product officer, Dr. Vijay Nandakumar, said that the aluminum-containing capsule is a significant step forward for the company.
“We are excited about this development,” he said in the statement.
“Tums capsules have a significant benefit to the health of people, as well as to our global supply chain.”
The aluminum-coated capsules will be made from the same aluminum material used to make Tums products, and Tums will make it available in different sizes and shapes.
Tum is a manufacturer of vitamins and supplements, and its capsule is used by more than 200 million people in the US alone.
According to a 2016 survey by the Food and Drug Administration, nearly a third of people in America take Tums capsules.
